Ever dreamt of a place where winter feels like a storybook? Sapporo, Japan's northern gem, transforms into just that. Forget the humdrum of everyday life; here, winter is a celebration.

Imagine streets blanketed in snow, sparkling lights, and the crisp, clean air filling your lungs. It's a world away from the tropics, a real-life snow globe.

Tropical Dreams

For someone raised where the sun always shines, snow was a mythical thing. Sapporo made it real. Each of our four trips revealed a new layer of its charm. The buzz among Filipino travelers, thanks to a popular film and direct flights, has added a familiar warmth to the frosty air. It's a joy to hear Tagalog echoing through the snowy streets.

City Unveiled

Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, stands out with its planned layout. Unlike ancient Japanese cities, its grid system, centered on Ekimae Avenue and Odori Park, makes it easy to navigate. Built for the 1972 Winter Olympics, the city boasts a modern subway system.

Expect Japanese (Nihongo) as the primary language, but English translations are common. Remember to carry Japanese Yen (JPY), as cash is king here. Electricity runs on 100V, with Type A sockets.

Winter's Embrace

Winter is the star of the show. With about 6 meters of snow annually, Sapporo becomes a snowy wonderland by December. The highlight? The Sapporo Snow Festival in early February, where massive ice and snow sculptures amaze visitors.

The Sapporo White Illumination, from mid-November to December, turns the city into a sparkling dream. Skiing enthusiasts will find paradise, and the Sapporo International Ski Marathon offers a thrilling challenge.
