Hey friends! 💬 Let's talk real life for a sec—when it comes to losing weight, should you run or just walk faster?
🏃♀️🚶♀️ I used to think running was the only way to "burn it off," but after trying both for weeks, the answer isn't as simple as I thought. Let's break it down together 👇
I wanted to drop a bit of extra weight (like many of us do), but I didn't want to burn out or get injured. I heard different things: "Running burns more calories!" "Walking is gentler and more sustainable!"
So I decided to do both—for two separate weeks. Week 1: fast walking. Week 2: light jogging. Same time each day. Same meals. No other workouts. Just to see how my body reacts. Spoiler: the results were eye-opening.
I walked 45 minutes a day, around 6 days that week. I kept a steady pace—faster than a stroll, but still comfortable.
What I noticed:
• I didn't feel super tired afterward
• It gave me a peaceful break from work and screens
• I actually looked forward to it every day
By the end of the week, I dropped a little over 1 pound, slept better, and my legs felt more toned (surprisingly!).
This was more intense. I ran at a light, steady pace for the same 45 minutes.
Here's what changed:
• My heart rate stayed higher
• I definitely sweat more 💦
• I felt hungrier and a bit more tired afterward
Weight loss-wise, I dropped a similar amount—maybe a bit more (around 1.3 pounds)—but I needed longer recovery after each session.
Here's the deal: both work.
• Running burns calories faster, but can be harder on your knees and joints
• Brisk walking burns fewer calories per minute, but is easier to stick with long-term
For me, walking felt way more doable. I could listen to music, take in the view, and it didn't leave me feeling drained. Plus, I didn't need fancy shoes or warm-ups—just get up and go.
If you're just starting out or coming back from a break, brisk walking is seriously underrated. And if you enjoy running and your body handles it well—go for it! The key isn't "which burns more." It's what you'll actually keep doing consistently.
Have you tried both? Which one feels better for you? Or are you thinking of starting a walking/running routine soon? Drop a comment—I'd love to hear what's worked for you or any tips you've picked up! 💛 Let's cheer each other on! 🙌
